Steve Bernardo (July 9, 1945) passed away peacefully at his home in the presence of his family on July 3, 2024.  Steve is the son of Clifford (Deceased) and Doris (Age 101) Bernardo, and brother of Craig (deceased – Deborah).  Steve is survived by his wife of almost 49 years and best friend of almost 50 years Gemma, his three sons, Matthew (Elizabeth), David (Laura) and Andrew (Jana), seven wonderful grandchildren, Sophia, Rhiannon, Conrad, William, Aubrey, Colin and Helena and many nieces and nephews. 

Steve lived in Aurora for 19 years before leaving to study for undergraduate and law degrees at McMaster and Queen’s respectively.  Steve worked at Mathews Dinsdale & Clark for 49 years retiring in 2020 as the most senior partner of this 80-lawyer specialty law firm with offices in Halifax, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.   Steve became a commuter when he moved his family to Aurora in 1991, where he was heavily involved with Canadian Parents for French and coached basketball and rugby.  

In 1999 Steve and a friend established the Junior Program of the Aurora Rugby Club.  After merging with the Barbarian Rugby Club, the Aurora Barbs have become one of the largest clubs in Ontario. 

Steve always considered himself an Aurora boy. 

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 21st at the Aurora Royal Canadian Legion (Branch #385), 105 Industrial Parkway North, Aurora, Ontario from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.  Speeches at 3:00PM.
